Why Do Breastfeeding Babies Need Vitamin D Supplements?

Vitamin D is needed for bones to grow strong. Some babies are at risk for not having enough vitamin D.  This is called a vitamin D deficiency.  Because it is hard to tell which babies might be at risk, it is recommended that all breastfed babies receive vitamin D supplements until they are eating foods other than breastmilk.  Talk to your doctor or midwife about Vitamin D supplements for your baby.
